Molecular & Cell Biology Degree Overview

The Molecular & Cell Biology (MCB) degree is a major option for the Biological Sciences side of the LSBE program. This degree is offered through the College of Letters and Science. The MCB department touts vast research opportunities for students and award-winning faculty members in many exciting research fields, including CRISPR and genome editing, immunotherapy in cancer biology, aging, and computational biology. Through the LSBE program, this degree will be fulfilled simultaneously with a Business Administration degree.

The undergraduate major in MCB focuses on studying molecular structures and processes of cellular life and their roles in the function, reproduction, and development of living organisms. There are six emphasis areas in MCB:

  • Biochemistry, Biophysics & Structural Biology

  • Cell Biology, Development & Physiology

  • Genetics, Genomics, Evolution & Development

  • Immunology & Molecular Medicine

  • Molecular Therapeutics

  • Neurobiology*

*Note: Starting from the academic year 2025-2026, Neurobiology will be its distinct major as Neuroscience, and will no longer be an emphasis in MCB.
